HELPING AKTOBE HOSPITAL SAVE CHILDREN’S LIVES

05.08.2020

The AYALA Charity Foundation helps the Aktobe hospital save children’s lives.

We donated an incubator for intensive care of newborns with critically low body weight and a phototherapy lamp to help infants with neonatal jaundice to the intensive care unit of the children’s hospital of the Aktobe Medical Centre ME.

The total cost of the equipment donated in Aktobe was 7.2 million tenge. This amount was raised in 2019 as part of the Let’s Breathe Life project through a campaign and boxes in the GAZ Energy network, transfers from Kazakhstanis in Kassa24 terminals, through a promotion with KOMPRA LLP, as well as through donations from individuals.

Every year, 80 thousand children pass through the children’s hospital of the Aktobe Medical Centre (formerly the Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital), of which 12 thousand are hospitalized. The management of this medical institution addressed AYALA Foundation for help in purchasing medical equipment for pediatric intensive care.

IDN-03-UOMZ incubator for newborns with critically low body weight will increase the chances of survival and health of premature babies. It has microprocessor control of parameters of temperature and air humidity, oxygen concentration, temperature and body weight of the child.

Phototherapeutic neonatal irradiator OFN-2-UOMZ can be installed either directly on the newborn incubator, or attached to one of its stands using a bracket. It uses a new type of radiation source in the blue-green spectrum, which is completely harmless to the child’s body.

Phototherapy lamp helps cure jaundice in newborns, maintaining their health and intelligence. Neonatal jaundice is an increase in the level of toxic bilirubin, which leads to severe damage to the central nervous system. It is especially common among premature babies, in children with anemia and intrauterine infection.

Too high a level of toxic bilirubin in the blood can cause irreversible damage to the child’s brain, such as developmental delays, adenoid cerebral palsy, partial or complete paralysis, hearing problems and even complete hearing loss.

“Tens of thousands of caring Kazakhstanis helped our Foundation donate the state-of-the-art, efficient and safe equipment to this hospital. For 14 years now, we have been working to ensure that our doctors can save as many children as possible here in Kazakhstan. We conduct skills improvement training courses for neonatologists and issue guidelines on modern methods of providing medical care to newborns. My philosophy is simple — it is the concentration of resources for a systematic solution to problems in healthcare in a productive and professional dialogue with doctors and the Ministry of Healthcare. I am glad that year after year, through synergy, we all save the lives of thousands of children in our country,” said Aidan Suleimenova, president of the AYALA Foundation.
