Mangistau oblast is one of the regions with high newborn mortality in the country. To this end, on behalf of the Samruk-Kazyna JSC group of companies, with the sponsorship of the Samruk-Kazyna Trust Foundation, a hypothermia hardware complex was donated to the oblast perinatal centre of Aktau city. Previously, doctors in the oblast had to save babies using improvised means.
By the end of October 2022, with the support of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, AYALA Charity Foundation will install hypothermia hardware complexes in perinatal centres in Uralsk, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Shymkent. Thus, preserving the life and health of children born with severe and moderate asphyxia during childbirth will be possible in another 5 regions of Kazakhstan.
Therapeutic hypothermia shall be used in the first hours of a newborn’s life. Precise temperature exposure allow to adjust blood flow and control restoration of cells and affected areas of the infants’ brain. The amplitude electroencephalography monitor helps doctors monitor and efficiently adjust the therapy used for saving and care of newborns.
“The issue of reducing child mortality is topical for Mangistau oblast. Medical equipment will help our doctors in saving, treating and rehabilitation of newborns. We thank the Samruk-Kazyna Trust and AYALA for the hypothermia unit and the amplitude electroencephalography monitor,” noted Zhaparyk Yepenova, director of the Oblast Perinatal Centre.
This medical institution is designed for 230 beds and is the only one providing comprehensive qualified medical care to pregnant women and newborns in the Mangystau oblast.
“Samruk-Kazyna JSC pays great attention to oblast projects in its charitable activities. Initiatives in the healthcare sector receive special support. Today, our perinatal centre received the essential equipment and now doctors will be able to save newborns without wasting time, right here in Aktau,” said Dariga Utebalieva, director of the Mangistau oblast branch of Kazpost JSC.
The joint Controlled Hypothermia project of the Samruk-Kazyna Trust and AYALA Foundation is aimed at saving the life and health of children born with severe and moderate asphyxia during childbirth. From 2017, the total of lof 216 newborns were saved using equipment installed in 10 cities of Kazakhstan.
We provide children’s intensive care units with such equipment and nursing technologies that help reduce childhood disability from birth. It is critical to keep the newborn functionally healthy. The hypothermia hardware complex helps preserve the newborn’s brain and protect against irreversible damage due to hypoxia,” stressed Aidan Suleimenova, president of AYALA Charity Foundation.
