SIX PHOTOTHERAPY LAMPS FOR PERINATAL CENTRES OF ALMATY

20.08.2020

Two perinatal centres in Almaty received 6 phototherapy lamps from our Foundation — these are the City Centre for Perinatology and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and the City Perinatal Centre.

We purchased this medical equipment with funds raised in 2019 as part of the Let’s Breathe Life project. Collections for this campaign took place at the GAZ Energy gas station network, thousands of Kazakhstanis made transfers at Kassa24 terminals. We also sent funds transferred through a promotion from KOMPRA LLP and from another company, which chose to do a good deed anonymously, for the purchase of phototherapy lamps. The total amount was 7.6 million tenge.

Phototherapy lamp helps cure jaundice in newborns, maintaining their health and intelligence. Neonatal jaundice is an increase in the level of toxic bilirubin, which leads to severe damage to the central nervous system. It is especially common among premature babies, in children with anemia and intrauterine infection.

Too high a level of toxic bilirubin in the blood can cause irreversible damage to the child’s brain, such as developmental delays, adenoid cerebral palsy, partial or complete paralysis, hearing problems and even complete hearing loss.

The limit service life of a phototherapy lamp is 1000 to 2000 hours. After this it must be replaced. Therefore, the demand for such lamps is always very high.

We thank all Kazakhstanis who helped preserve the intelligence and health of thousands of newborns!
