The equipment helps reduce disability among newborns in Pavlodar region. The retinal camera was purchased by the single charity operator of Samruk-Kazyna JSC, Samruk-Kazyna Trust Foundation, and transferred to the Regional Perinatal Center.
“Thanks to the retinal camera, the doctors will be able to save vision of hundreds of children every year by making accurate diagnosis and thus providing prompt assistance. Supporting regional projects in the field of children’s healthcare is one of the critical priorities for the Samruk-Kazyna Foundation,” Alfiya Adieva, the Head of the Samruk-Kazyna Trust, noted.
More than 10,000 children are born each year in Pavlodar region. Over the last year, 763 premature babies were born in the region. 40% of such children are diagnosed with retinopathy, leading to complete loss of vision. The doctors, in turn, expressed their deep gratitude to Samruk-Kazyna Trust for their assistance in introducing neonatal ophthalmology in the maternity hospital.
Samruk-Kazyna Trust Foundation is implementing “Newborn Retinopathy” project in partnership with AYALA Charitable Foundation, with which they have already implemented successfully “Controlled Hypothermia” project. Thanks to the purchased equipment for automatic hypothermia, doctors in six regions of Kazakhstan were able to save about 70 newborns from May 2021 to November 2023.
