ATYRAU MATERNITY HOSPITAL RECEIVED EQUIPMENT FOR SAVING NEWBORNS

14.12.2022

More than 270 children pass through the Neonatal Pathology Department of the Atyrau City Maternity Hospital every year. To help doctors care for newborns in difficult cases of childbirth, AYALA Charity Foundation has donated modern resuscitation equipment — an incubator for intensive care of premature babies and an open resuscitation system. In the next 5 years, this medical equipment will allow doctors to save the lives of at least 1,350 children. BAYER Kazakhstan provided sponsorship of the project in the amount of 9.5 million tenge.

“Our maternity hospital belongs to the 2nd level of medical care for the population of Atyrau. Difficult cases of childbirth in women who live in the city are referred to us. Our Neonatal Pathology Department was in dire need of resuscitation equipment to provide a quick and high-quality care. And we are very pleased to receive a set of modern, reliable equipment that will help our neonatologists and resuscitators care for and maintain functional health of the little Atyrau residents. We thank AYALA Foundation and BAYER for their attention to the needs of neonatologists in our city,” noted Gulzeynep Suyyngalievna Dyusupova, director of the Atyrau City Maternity Hospital.

AYALA Charity Foundation has been helping the state in reducing infant mortality and disability for 15 years through the implementation of the Let’s Breathe Life project. Since 2007, this project has raised more than 2 billion tenge, for which 67 public medical Centres of the country have received more than 1,100 units of modern resuscitation equipment, and more than 1,000 neonatologists have completed free skills improvement courses. This systematic approach of the Foundation helped save the lives and functional health of hundreds of thousands of children in Kazakhstan, not outside the country.

“The Let’s Breathe Life project fully complies with the priorities of the State Healthcare Development Program for 2020–2025. In particular, by 2025, infant mortality in our country should decrease from 10.1 to 8.3 per 1000 live births. Our Foundation’s activities to provide children’s intensive care units with modern equipment directly affects the reduction of this indicator. Therefore, we are constantly working to find and attract sponsors for the Let’s Breathe Life project and are eternally grateful to the BAYER Kazakhstan company for supporting children’s healthcare through charity,” noted Aidan Suleimenova, founder and president of AYALA Charity Foundation.

The results of a large-scale inventory carried out in 2021 by the RoK Ministry of Healthcare by an instructionfrom the Head of State showed that the level of wear and tear of medical equipment in public medical institutions is about 49 percent. Medical equipment shall be replaced every 5 years, however, the Foundation’s many years of experience in interaction with state medical institutions shows that such replacement does not occur. Hence, from January to October 2022 alone, AYALA Charity Foundation, with the support of sponsors and donations from Kazakhstanis, allocated more than 280 million tenge to equip 15 children’s intensive care units of multidisciplinary hospitals, perinatal Centres and city maternity hospital in Atyrau.

“Care for the health of mothers and children is an important component of Bayer’s mission of the World Without Diseases and Hunger.” I am very glad that for the second year we are joining forces with AYALA Charity Foundation. Owing to this initiative, we have an opportunity to contribute to improving the health of future generations of the city of Atyrau,” commented Lauma Valtere, General Director of Bayer in Kazakhstan.
