NEONATOLOGISTS LEARNED ABOUT NEW METHODS OF FIGHTING NOSOCOMIAL INFECTION

29.05.2019

Nosocomial infection is one of the main causes of mortality and severe complications in children’s departments of maternity hospitals, perinatal centres and children’s hospitals. The causes and ways to solve this problem were discussed during a training conference for neonatologists and neonatologists-resuscitators. The event was held from May 27 to May 29, 2019 at the Research Centre for Pediatrics and Pediatric Surgery in Almaty

According to the Congress of Neonatologists, today this problem is especially acute in neonatal intensive care units. By virtue of developmental characteristics and concomitant pathologies, this category of children requires a large number of long-term invasive manipulations. The result is an increased risk of developing healthcare-associated infections.

“To solve the problem of nosocomial infection, the contributing factors, preventive measures and timely criteria for its diagnosis should be known. Unfortunately, despite a significant decrease in neonatal mortality during the period of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the moment preventive measures to prevent nosocomial infections are still unclear. Therefore, educational programs and experience sharing will improve the quality of medical care for newborns,” noted Bekturgan Karin, head of the Congress of Neonatologists.
