The Atyrau Regional Perinatal Center will soon be equipped with high-tech equipment to treat newborns with severe respiratory disorders. AYALA Charity Foundation in partnership with Tengizchevroil provide specialized equipment for the intensive care unit of the Center.
The «Breath in Life» project is aimed at reducing infant mortality rates and improving the quality of neonatal care in the region. The new equipment is a nitric oxide therapy device. It will help save the lives of infants born with critical respiratory complications: acute pulmonary hypertension, congenital pneumonia, and other conditions that were previously considered incompatible with life.
— We are happy that our “Breath in Life” project has gained support from Tengizchevroil. We have been implementing it since 2010, and it helps save hundreds of children’s lives in ICUs across the country every year. I am glad that Atyrau will now also have modern equipment capable of assisting doctors in the most critical situations, — Aidan Suleimenova, Founder and President of the AYALA Foundation, said.
According to Kazbek Yermagambetov, Director of the Regional Perinatal Center, the new equipment will allow to save the lives of at least 25 infants every year.
— We are eagerly awaiting the nitric oxide therapy device. It will help us prevent early neonatal mortality. Over five years, we will be able to save the lives of 125 newborns. The equipment will serve for 5 to 10 years, and we expect to reduce significantly the rate of early infant mortality in the region with this equipment, — Kazbek Aizharykovich said.
This is not the first joint project between the Foundation and Tengizchevroil. Last year, through the partnership with Tengizchevroil, the Atyrau Regional Perinatal Center received a retinal camera that enables detection of severe vision pathologies in premature infants. Thanks to timely diagnostics, not a single child in the region has lost their eyesight.
AYALA Foundation has been helping children’s medical institutions in the Atyrau region since 2011. During this time, with the support of partners, including Tengizchevroil, the Foundation has allocated 295 million tenge to develop children’s healthcare in the region. This assistance included the supply of resuscitation and diagnostic equipment, as well as the introduction of modern techniques and training of specialists
Bekturgan Karin, Chief Freelance Neonatologist of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan, highlighted the systematic approach of AYALA Foundation, which has made a significant contribution to reducing infant mortality all over the country.
— Since 2010, the early neonatal mortality rate in Kazakhstan has decreased by 2.5 times — to under 5 per mille, which is comparable to European Union levels. The primary goal of our neonatal service, which includes Regional Perinatal Centers across the country, is the continuous improvement of medical care quality. AYALA Foundation has been effectively assisting in this effort. They understand all our needs from within and always provide targeted support — whether through equipment or specialist training. Without such partnerships, it would have taking decades to implement the key neonatology projects, — the expert emphasized.
AYALA Foundation has been operating in Kazakhstan since 2007. Over 18 years, it has supported state healthcare institutions in 67 localities across the country. Its projects «Breathe, Baby», «I Can See the World», and «Breath in Life» have saved the lives and health of hundreds of thousands of children. The Foundation’s cumulative contributions to pediatric healthcare development in Kazakhstan exceed 3 billion tenge.
AYALA Foundation continues to implement «Breath in Life» project in line with the priorities of the State Healthcare Development Program of Kazakhstan.
